GROCERY STORES: Collect food from each store's receiver and return the items to Food for Others. Because some stores have especially large donations, an SUV or larger is recommended for these positions. See individual shift descriptions for more details. My Market at Food for Others opened in January 2023 to support clients experiencing food insecurity. Families who visit our warehouse can select their own items in a client choice pantry and access wraparound services to help them work towards greater food security. My Market is intended to make seeking food assistance a more comfortable experience, enabling families to select items based on their cultural preferences and dietary needs. PLEASE NOTE: Due to the pace of My Market operations, volunteers must be flexible with duties to meet the needs of the day. My Market Volunteer Positions - My Market Assistant: Assistants support food distribution by helping clients select the correct number of items they wish to receive in the My Market choice pantry. Assistants may also help stock shelves, greet clients, line clients up for entry, or other pantry duties as needed. My Market Lead/Computer: Lead/Computer volunteers control the flow of clients into the pantry area, collect client tickets as they leave the market, ensure each client has received the correct items, and enter the weight of food distributed into the Food for Others computer system. Lead/Computer volunteers may also help with Assistant tasks as needed. Please see shift for more details about training and eligibility requirements. My Market Warehouse: My Market Warehouse volunteers help stock shelves, sort food that comes into the pantry from grocery partners and assist with breaking down boxes and keeping the warehouse organized. My Market Parking: Parking volunteers manage parking and traffic operations within Food for Others' parking lot, ensuring order and safety at all times. My Market Volunteer Requirements (all positions): - Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age or older - Every volunteer must register individually and pre-register online - Usage of earbuds, headphones, cellphones, or other personal technology is strictly prohibited in in My Market. Your respectful attention should be placed on the clients. - All volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes - If you are working more than one shift, you can bring your own food and take a break in between shifts. Volunteers are not permitted to eat FFO’s food. - My Market volunteers must feel comfortable interacting with a diverse population and demonstrate FFO’s commitment to treating all clients, volunteers, and staff with respect and dignity

Food for Others distributes food on weeknights to locations throughout Fairfax and Arlington Counties. Volunteers play an integral role in this operation by picking up the food at our warehouse, driving it to the assigned location, and distributing it equitably among the individuals and families who come to receive services. Generally, the food is picked up at Food for Others between 5:00-5:30 pm and then distributed between 6:00-6:30 pm, but please follow detailed instructions for each shift description. Please note: New volunteers who are interested in attending Neighborhood Sites shifts must first apply for and complete a shadow shift. Neighborhood Site Tasks: - Load food from Food for Others warehouse into personal vehicle (between 5:00-5:30 pm)* - Transport food to assigned neighborhood location* - Distribute food in equitable manner (between 6:00-6:30 pm) - Return crates to warehouse - Email the number of families and total individuals who received food to volunteer@foodforothers.org Neighborhood Site Volunteer Requirements: - Must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver’s license - Must use personal vehicle to transport food - Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds - Must arrive on time to pick up and distribute the food - Must have treat clients with respect and dignity - Must have ability to diffuse difficult situations Food Pickup Address: Food for Others (2938 Prosperity Avenue, Fairfax, VA 22031) *Food delivery address is unique to each position; please check shift description for specific meeting instructions.

Food for Others is providing food for over 3,000 households every week, and our annual 5K fundraiser allows us to continue to support our food insecure neighbors. Volunteers play an integral role in the success of our annual Tysons 5K & Fun Run! Volunteer Duties: 5K Volunteers may assist with a variety of roles, including set up and breakdown, course marshalling, information tables, and more. Please view specific shifts for more specific details and timeframes. Please come with a flexible mindset, as volunteer duties and roles may be modified to meet the needs of the day. General 5K & Fun Run Volunteer Requirements: - Every volunteer must register individually - Individuals must sign up in advance and be on our schedule to volunteer - no walk-ins permitted - Must be able to stand and walk entire shift, at least two hours Parking and Transportation: Please note that the Event Hub will be located at PenFed Plaza at Tysons Corner Center (A good GPS address is for the Hyatt adjacent to the Plaza: 7901 Tysons One Pl, Tysons 22102). You can park in Garage E on level 3, 5, or 6 and use the elevator or stairs to level 4 for direct access to the Plaza walkway. IMPORTANT: If you are registering for a Packet Pickup shift the day before the event, you will be serving at Road Runner Sports. Please review your shift description for details.

The Farm Stand provides fresh produce collected from local Farmers' Markets to My Market clients. The stand is located at FFO's Main Warehouse in the grassy area across from My Market. As a Produce Stand Volunteer, you will help distribute the produce and with set up and breakdown of the produce stand tent and table. Please Note: This is a client engagement opportunity role that involves conversing with the clients while managing the distribution of produce. Please Also Note: This role is outdoors so please dress accordingly--bug spray, sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses are all highly recommended! Closed-toe shoes are required. Based on community demand, the produce stand may occasionally end before the posted end of the day. Volunteers are expected to be available for the entire duration of their registered shift(s). Farm Stand Volunteer Requirements: - Every volunteer must register individually and pre-register online - no walk-ins permitted - Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age - Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs, and on occasion, up to 50 lbs with assistance (if needed) - All volunteers must wear close-toed shoes - If you are working more than one shift, you can bring your own food and take a break in between shifts (Volunteers are not permitted to eat FFO's food) - Headphones are not permitted for safety reasons and cell phone use must be limited - Bilingual language skills (Spanish, Arabic, Farsi) appreciated, but not required

The warehouse is the heart of our operation. Volunteers play an integral role in this operation, so please be prepared to help with whatever tasks that need to be done that particular day, as it can change from hour to hour! PLEASE NOTE: Volunteers ages 12-15 MUST volunteer alongside an adult; accompanying adults must have separate accounts and shift registrations. Warehouse Volunteer Tasks: - Redistribute bulk produce, canned good, or dry goods to individual bags - Sort donated non-perishable food and check for expiration dates - Stock shelves - Assemble boxes of non-perishable food for distribution - Assist with sweeping, mopping and other cleaning tasks in the warehouse/office spaces/kitchen - Breakdown cardboard for recycling and clean workstation towards end of shift Warehouse Floater Tasks: - Warehouse Floaters help with Warehouse Volunteer tasks and additional duties below as needed - Assist staff with loading and unloading boxes and pallets of food - Assist staff with unloading food donations - Rotate into My Market warehouse, produce sorting, or other duties as needed Mobile Market & Community Partners Tasks: - Mobile Market & Community Partners volunteers help with Warehouse Volunteer tasks and additional duties below as needed - Prep packages for pickups to be delivered to homebound clients - Move bulk dry goods and produce to pallets - Assist staff with loading boxes and pallet orders on to truck All Warehouse Volunteer Requirements: - Every volunteer must register individually and pre-register online - no walk-ins permitted - Volunteers must be at least 12 years of age (some opportunities have different age requirements) - Children age 12-15 must volunteer alongside an adult AND accompanying adults must have separate accounts and shift registrations - Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs, and on occasion, up to 50 lbs with assistance (if needed) - All volunteers must wear close-toed shoes - If you are working more than one shift, you can bring your own food and take a break in between shifts (Volunteers are not permitted to eat FFO's food) - Headphones are not permitted for safety reasons and cell phone use must be limited
