Support the annual Fairfax County Read and Feed food drive (formerly Food for Fines) and make an immediate impact on your community! Shifts go fast, so check in frequently for updates and new opportunities to serve. Your role is simple but essential: pick up donations from Fairfax County Public Library branches and deliver them to Food for Others. Specific guidance is included in each shift description. Food Pickup Requirements: - Must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver’s license - Must use your own vehicle to transport food - Must be able to lift at least 20lbs - Must arrive on time to pick up and deliver the food Food Delivery Address: Food for Others 2938 Prosperity Avenue Fairfax, VA 22031 Loading Dock #1 or #2

Food for Others receives a large amount of donated food during Fairfax County Public Library's annual food drive, Read and Feed. Volunteers are needed to pick up the donations during the weekday and bring them to the FFO warehouse.
Volunteer@foodforothers.org connects you to the Volunteer Coordinator who is happy to answer additional questions.
Volunteers will need to use their own vehicles and be able to lift donated food in and out of their vehicles. Please dress to be comfortable and according to the weather.
Please send an email to volunteer@foodforothers.org if you must cancel less than 48 hours before your shift! If you are canceling a shift more than 2 days prior to your commitment, please update your schedule at this link: (https://foodforothers.volunteermatters.org/project-catalog/60) Food for Others has established long-term relationships with Fairfax County Public Library, and we depend upon the reliable pickup and delivery of food by our volunteers. We cannot accomplish all we do without you. If you schedule a volunteer shift and DO NOT show up, Food for Others is not able to effectively serve the community. With this in mind, we also understand unexpected circumstances can cause you to cancel, so it is important to our operations that you give us as much notice as possible. A no-show may endanger future shifts.
